Zagreb By foot

It could be said that Zagreb holds within it a myriad of stories, legends and interesting places that span through its winding paths and steps. 95 steps - some made of stone, wood and concrete - stretch through the small and large streets that connect the Upper and Lower Towns. In some places, they create stunning vistas and stunning picturesque scenes, admired by the observant traveler. One of the longest staircases, the Alanske Stube, stands out. 555 steps connecting Jahorinska Street and Gornje Prekrižje, it takes its name from a mountain peak on Velebit. On the other hand, the Kapucinske Stube, which connects Mesnićka Street and Matoševa Street, also go by the name of Vještičje štenge, as legend has it, they were used by the witches of Zagreb for their gatherings. Illuminated with antique lamps, these wooden stairs are now a romantic path for strolling. Furthermore, the Schlosserove Stube is a must for the ones walking to the Zagreb School of Medicine, connecting Langov Square and the Šalata quarter, taking its name from the renowned Croatian doctor and naturalist Josip Kalasancije Schlosser, while serving as a popular exercise route for athletes. Lastly, Zakmardijeve Stube, connecting the famous Strossmayer promenade and Radićeva Street, is well known among students as a meeting spot, while the Mlinske Stube is the one leading to the Kožarska Street and Radićeva Street, due to the large mill that used to be in the area.
