Get Ready for the Magic of Advent Zagreb!

2 December 2023 - 7 January 2024

With an 'Advent Warm-up' starting on November 29th.

Zagreb has proudly secured the coveted title of 'Best Christmas Market in Europe' for three consecutive years – a feat accomplished in 2016, 2017,

and 2018. With excitement building for this year's festivities, there's no doubt that Zagreb will once again dazzle and strive to capture the title once more!

From December 2 to January 7, Zagreb the capital of  Croatia will  transform into a winter wonderland, aglow with thousands of twinkling lights,

infusing the air with the warmth and romance that only the Advent season can bring. Throughout the city's streets, squares, promenades, passages,

and parks, you'll find places to come together with your loved ones, holding a warm cup of mulled wine or hot chocolate to chase away the chill.

Breathe in the delightful scents of cinnamon, cloves, and local treats that will fill the heart of the city.

This year, the festivities kick off with an 'Advent Warm-up' starting on November 29th.

  • Traditional Advent Lighting: The lighting of the first Advent candle at Manduševac on December 2nd marks the start of one of Zagreb's most iconic tourist events.

  • New and Familiar Locations: Mayor Tomislav Tomašević confirmed the introduction of new locations within the pedestrian zone and Ban Jelačić Square. The 'Great, Great Christmas' at Svačić Square commences on December 9th, and the Mažuranac Ball is scheduled for December 15th.

  • Ice Rink and Enchanting Gardens: The ice rink at Tomislavac is back for skating enthusiasts. For the first time, Advent will extend to the city park Ribnjak with the 'Moon Garden,' having relocated from Bele IV Park.

  • Fuliranje Returns: The popular 'Fuliranje' returns to Strossmeyer Square, and Zrinjevac remains an indispensable part of the festivities.

  • Advent at Multiple Locations: Advent is not limited to one location; it can be experienced at Svečić Square, Mažuranić Square, and various decorative sites. Festive sales and catering will be available at stalls on Gajeva, Bogovićeva, and the main square.

  • Cultural Enrichment: Over 100 concerts, exhibitions in museums and galleries, and performances in theaters are in store for Advent-goers.

  • This year, over a hundred children from the finest Australian choirs are joining the celebrations.

  • Celebrating 50 Years: It's also a year to celebrate 50 grand years of the Vatroslav Lisinski Concert Hall with three days of special events and concerts.

  • Unique Performances: The Zagreb soloists will grace the Ethnographic Museum and the Zagreb City Museum with their performances, enriching the cultural experiences that Advent offers.

  • The Croatian National Theatre will open its doors in the afternoons for everyone to enter and capture cherished memories of Advent through photographs.

  • Kaleidoscope Theme: The theme at Ban Jelačić Square will be 'Kaleidoscope,' adding a touch of uniqueness to the celebrations.

Zagreb's Advent is a truly magical experience, and we can't wait to share it with you. The city is getting ready to sparkle and enchant once again, and we'd love for you to be a part of this joyous celebration.

Cirque du Soleil, the renowned Canadian-based entertainment organization, has evolved from its humble beginnings in 1984 when it comprised a group of 20 street performers. Today, it stands as a global powerhouse, captivating audiences with its exceptional artistic performances.

Cirque du Soleil Entertainment Group has wowed over 400 million spectators across more than 400 cities in over eighty countries spanning six continents. This incredible journey started in Baie-Saint-Paul, a charming town near Québec City in Canada. During the early eighties, a group of vibrant characters roamed the town's streets, captivating onlookers with their stilt-walking, juggling, dance, fire-breathing, and music. These talented performers were known as Les Échassiers de Baie-Saint-Paul, or the Baie-Saint-Paul Stiltwalkers. Among them was Guy Laliberté, who later became the founder of Cirque du Soleil.

The troupe eventually founded Le Club des talons hauts, also known as the High Heels Club, and in 1982, they organized La Fête foraine de Baie-Saint-Paul, a cultural event that brought street performers from various regions together to exchange ideas and bring the town's streets to life for a few unforgettable days. This event was so successful that it was repeated in 1983 and 1984.

The acclaim garnered by Le Club des talons hauts and the dreams of Guy Laliberté, Gilles Ste-Croix, and their associates gave rise to a audacious vision: to create a Québec circus and take their troupe on a global journey.

Don't miss the opportunity to experience the magic of Cirque du Soleil when the show comes to Zagreb!
