Zagreb's Digital Nomad Revolution

 A Collaboration for Success

In the heart of Europe, Zagreb has blossomed into a digital nomad hotspot, attracting remote workers with its unique blend of culture, affordability, and community. The city boasts diverse co-working spaces that transcend mere desks, offering a supportive environment for collaboration and networking. From the bustling city center to the tranquil outskirts, freelancers find spaces that nurture both productivity and creativity.

Doma Zagreb Aparthotel played a pivotal role as the main accommodation sponsor for the first six months of Zagreb's digital nomad community initiation. Collaborating with Saltwater Nomads, Total Croatia News, and the Zagreb Tourist Board, this endeavor has not only been a success in the capital but has resonated throughout Croatia, marking a collaborative triumph in the evolving landscape of remote work.

But who exactly are digital nomads?

Digital nomads are entrepreneurs or employees who primarily rely on digital technologies to perform their work. They embrace a location-independent lifestyle, often working remotely while traveling and taking advantage of internet connectivity wherever they go.

Croatia has recognized the growing trend of digital nomads and has extended its short-term residency permits to welcome non-European Union travelers who fall under this category.

To be eligible, applicants must work remotely for a company not registered in Croatia, and their work must not involve providing services to employers within the country. Temporary stays of up to one year are granted, and close family members are also allowed to join them. Depending on whether applicants come from visa-required countries, they need to submit their applications either abroad at a Croatian diplomatic mission/consular post or at a relevant police administration/police station if no visa is required.

Applicants should have a clean criminal record and provide supporting documents such as a valid travel document, proof of health insurance, and a work contract or other evidence of their employment arrangements. Additionally, proof of financial means must be provided, including a bank statement or proof of regular income, demonstrating a minimum of HRK 28,800 (€3802) available for a 12-month period.

For detailed instructions and to apply, refer to the step-by-step guide provided by the Republic of Croatia's Ministry of Interior. You can find more information and access the application process on our website.
